One of the most important Senate elections in the Nation will be the MA Sept 1 primary, where Sen Ed Markey is being challenged by Joe Kennedy III. Markey has been the national leader in the Senate for the Green New Deal, the SANE Act cutting nuclear weapons spending, No First Use of Nuclear Weapons, Net Neutrality and environmental protection, among others. Kennedy’s accomplishments in the House are invisible. What he has is family name, fortune and red hair. Markey has been endorsed by Mass Peace Action, ORMA, and the Mass Teachers Association and many other significant organizations.  

The replacement of a senior progressive champion like Markey in the Senate by a junior  Kennedy will be a setback to progressives and the Nation.

Voting in primaries is often light, so voter engagement and turnout is key.
